A watch is a lovely thing to give someone. It can mark a birthday, a wedding, a new job, a retirement, or a moment when life takes a different direction. Something chosen for a particular person, at a particular time, that becomes part of their everyday life.

Choosing one is personal. You might know exactly what they would wear, or you might have a particular watch in mind that you keep coming back to. The dial, the colour, the shape of the case, the way it feels on the wrist. Sometimes it's a watch that catches your eye straight away. Sometimes it takes a little longer to find the right one.

Something with a story behind it

At Pinchbeck, we're a small independent British watchmaker based in Lincoln. We design our watches here and assemble every Pinchbeck in our own workshop, one at a time.

Our workshop sits inside Exchequer Gate Arch, a medieval archway directly opposite Lincoln Cathedral. It's where our watches come together, from the first stages of assembly to the checks we carry out before a watch leaves us.

We work with specialist suppliers to bring each watch together, combining their skills and components with our own design and hands-on assembly. Choosing a Pinchbeck means choosing a watch made by a small team, in a real workshop, in a historic British city.

For us, that's an important part of the story. British watchmaking isn't just something we write about. It's what we do here, every day.

Choosing something personal

There's no single right watch to give. Some people prefer a clean, understated dial. Others are drawn to colour, detail or something a little different. The best place to start is with the person who will wear it.

Think about the watches they already wear, the colours they tend to choose and whether they prefer something traditional or more contemporary. If you're not sure, take a look through our Made to Order Collection and see which watches catch your eye.

And if you need a little help deciding, just ask us. We'd much rather help you find the right watch than leave you guessing.

Give yourself a little time

Most Pinchbeck watches are made to order. When you place an order, we assemble your watch here in Lincoln, then check and test it before it makes its way to you.

That means it's worth planning ahead if you're buying for a particular occasion. Birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas all have a date attached, and we can't always make a watch at the last minute. Check our current lead times before ordering, especially if you have a particular day in mind.

There's something fitting about a gift that takes time to prepare. Not because it needs a grand explanation, but because someone has thought about what to choose, and we've taken the time to put the watch together.

A gift that becomes part of everyday life

The occasion itself might last a day, but the watch goes on being worn. It becomes part of someone's routine, travels with them and picks up a few marks along the way. Over time, it can come to be associated with the person who gave it, or the moment it was given.

That's one of the things we like about mechanical watches. They're made to be worn, looked after and serviced as the years go by.

If you're thinking about giving a watch, we'd love you to discover Pinchbeck. Have a look through the collection, take your time choosing, and if one feels right, we'll make it here in Lincoln.
